BIOS: Bodywork and Integrative Oncology Series
4-class virtual education series for bodywork providers in the field of integrative oncology.
Presented by Benjamin Smith, hosted by the Survivor Institute at Survivor Wellness
This educational program was created in order to provide access to affordable oncology-specific bodywork training for providers working in the field of integrative health care.
This series consists of 4 live webinars, with each one covering basic principles of integrative oncology, over the course of four months. Each 90-minute module, presented by Benjamin Smith, highlights a certain aspect of working with and through the body in the integrative oncology field. Each module builds on the previous one, while introducing new material, and consists of 40-60 minutes of informative content, followed by interactive learning activities to improve clinical decision-making skills. This series is open to any professional bodyworker who either currently works with or who is interested in working with the cancer survivor community(see Prerequisites, below).
From Benjamin Smith: “In each of the four 90-minute live webinars we will discuss how bodywork can support people living with cancer, address common myths and misconceptions while developing foundational understanding of the effects of cancer and cancer treatment on the body, specifically the soft tissues, bones, blood, and nervous system. We will discuss how bodywork can help support people dealing with pain, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and nausea related to treatment, and what level of modifications are needed to achieve these benefits, while maximizing safety for the individual receiving massage. Our time will be spent in a combination of lecture, with reflective exercises, case studies, and have ample time for Q&A and application.”
- Recordings of the teaching part of each webinar will be available to participants within three days. (To maintain participant confidentiality, Q & A and teaching/experiential portions will not be recorded.)
- Participants are strongly recommended to join or view each session prior to joining the subsequent one.
