About Survivor Wellness
The “59 House” at 59 S 1100 E, with offices and meeting rooms.
Survivor Wellness is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1997 as Cancer Wellness House.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for cancer survivors, their family members, caregivers and loved ones by providing free and reduced-cost cancer wellness services and support in a welcoming, home-like setting.
Survivor Wellness is a cancer care community, a sanctuary in the heart of the city.

Since 1997, Survivor Wellness has provided free and reduced cost cancer wellness and integrative healthcare services and support to cancer survivors and their caregivers in a home-like setting. Programming addresses mental, emotional, physical, social, spiritual and financial health of those impacted by a cancer diagnosis in the Salt Lake Valley and beyond, and includes counseling, group and peer support, therapeutic services, and group wellness activities. Our vision is to provide person centered, evidence-based care in a community-based, non-clinical setting without increasing the financial burden of cancer.
At the time of its founding as Cancer Wellness House, the organization was considered a remarkable resource in the Intermountain west, as the only organization delivering wellness services to cancer survivors and their caregivers. In intervening years, most hospitals and clinics provide similar services; however three obstacles prevent success in those settings:
1) Many cancer survivors cannot afford or access many of those services,
2) Availability of those services is limited,
3) Services are delivered in a hospital or clinic setting, which can re-introduce trauma associated with medical treatment for cancer, and
4) There are few opportunities for social and community support in the settings mentioned above.
Where Survivor Wellness excels is in providing clinical services in an at-home setting with abundant opportunities for social interaction and community-based support.
Programming is specific to the needs of those who have undergone a cancer diagnosis and treatment, and complements (but does not replace) standard medical treatment. Indeed, many cancer survivors live for years beyond treatment with cancer-related treatment effects which impact every aspect of their lives. With the care provided at Survivor Wellness, members show improved health outcomes and increased quality of life.
Programming at Survivor Wellness includes: individual counseling, coaching and case management; facilitated group & peer support (to address mental-emotional issues and social isolation); therapeutic bodywork services (to address the physical effects of living with and beyond cancer treatment); and therapeutic fitness & movement classes (to rebuild physical capacity). Such services and support are not readily available to most cancer survivors, and are often financially out of reach of many individuals who suffer from the financial impact of cancer. In addition, and perhaps more impactfully, there are ample opportunities for social interaction in a home-like setting, which increases the positive impact of programming at Survivor Wellness.
Members often say, "This place heals the heart, mind and spirit - the things the doctors cannot."
Survivor Wellness does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, culture, gender, sexuality, nation of origin, disability, or age.
Survivor Wellness actively welcomes members of marginalized groups with open arms, with the understanding that these individuals are subject to social determinants of health (SDOH) that lead to an increased risk and likelihood of developing cancer.
In short: Survivor Wellness welcomes all cancer survivors and their caregivers and immediate support team members. Cancer does not discriminate; we are united by our experience.
All programming at Survivor Wellness is available to anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis, as well as their family members, caregivers and loved ones.
You are a cancer survivor as soon as you hear the words, “You have cancer”. Your caregivers are also survivors, as outlined by the National Cancer Institute in 2021.

HISTORY
This organization was established as Cancer Wellness House by Tika Beard and a host of courageous members and dedicated caregivers of the cancer community in Salt Lake City, Utah. The current staff and administration of Survivor Wellness offers our deepest respect and gratitude to these trailblazers.
Our organization honors the history of Holy Cross Hospital, the Montgomery Family, and those who work courageously to serve those living with cancer in the Salt Lake City area. Survivor Wellness is grateful to Holy Cross Hospital Salt Lake City and Common Spirit Health for providing the welcoming houses out of which the organization has operated since 1997.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
We acknowledge that Survivor Wellness sits on the unceded ancestral ground and homelands of the indigenous Ute, Paiute, Shoshone and Goshute tribes, the original stewards of this land. As we embrace these spaces, we gather in community to heal, connect, cultivate safety and ask for continued blessings of guidance, fortitude, abundance and strength for all who come through these healing spaces. We remain conscious of and indebted to the sacred relationship the indigenous peoples held with this land before us, and are committed to caring for the land that we now occupy, as did those who came before us.

“Survivor Wellness heals the things the doctors cannot.”
